We met Pat Hyland and his lovely wife not too long after our arrival in Prince Albert. At our first meeting we learned of Pat’s work in creating household lighting, and as we were about to take a trip to George to buy some lamps, we asked if we could take a look at his first.
And that was it!
Our first purchase was a standard lamp with 5 small bulbs. An eye-catching lamp that stands behind our sofa and provides us with excellent reading light. Then came the next 2; one to lighten up a darkish corner, which he just happened to have on the shelf titled Desert Rose, and then a beautiful ‘novelty’ lamp based on a tap.
Next, we needed a lamp that would illuminate a large desk. And finally, a beautiful kitchen light system built around an ox-wagon yoke.
Pat’s lamps are beautiful, unique, and highly functional. Just don’t be in a hurry to get your specially needed lamp. You tell Pat what you need, and then, like any artist, he thinks about the right design (function and appearance), finds the right components, and then crafts your special lamp which will be your unique treasure.
Thank you Pat!

I have been astonished at what I’ve seen of Pat’s work. It’s original and difficult in conception and execution. He has produced extraordinary art out of ordinary objects.
His efforts have given great pleasure to any who have been the recipients of his craft.

Before moving to Prince Albert I knew very little of Steam Punk. Pat Hyland has in his own inimitable way filled that gap and raised my awareness.
Having seen a number of his works both in private homes and on exhibit in the Prince Albert Gallery I have been impressed by his creativity and attention to detail.
Pat’s work is nothing if not fastidiously executed with immaculate attention to both function and finish. The style of his work reflects his understanding of the varied components he uses to bring a piece to creative fruition.
Steam Punk Functional art has come to stay in Prince Albert with Pat’s innate ability to interpret client’s needs from lighting solutions to pure Steam Punk illuminated sculpture designed to enthral.
I wish him every success.
